Management research is experiencing rapid transformation, driven by digitalization, evolving work systems, sustainability imperatives, and interdisciplinary insights. Given the dynamic situation, early-career scholars can derive considerable benefit from structured platforms in which early-stage ideas, conceptual frameworks, and developing insights can receive constructive and developmental feedback from senior researchers. To address this need, XLRI - Xavier School of Management, in collaboration with the Academy of Management (AOM), will hold a Paper Development Workshop (PDW) on 1st and 2nd September 2026. The workshop aims to enhance the rigor, relevance, and publishability of early, mid-stage, and advanced research projects, across the range of management disciplines.
Eligibility
PhD scholars, early-career Professors, independent researchers, and postdoctoral fellows.
Objectives of the Workshop
- To provide early-career scholars with detailed, developmental feedback from journal editors and other senior scholars
- To help participants to strengthen their theoretical framing, methodological rigor, and contributions
- To offer guidance on positioning papers for high-quality international journals
Target Disciplines / Domains
Submissions are invited from (but not limited to) the following areas:
- Finance (e.g., corporate governance, top management compensation, financial misconduct, risk, capital allocation, shareholder dynamics, investor behavior, crowdfunding, fintech)
- Technology / information systems / artificial intelligence (e.g., technology adoption, digital transformation, platform ecosystems, algorithmic management, AI in organizations, future of technology, digital disruption, data governance)
- Marketing (e.g., strategic interface, consumer behavior in organizations, sales teams, customer-firm interactions, buyer behavior, market shaping, brand meaning, marketing strategy, market trends, marketing phenomena, digital customer journeys)
- Communication (e.g., networks, identity, organizational discourse, power dynamics, digital communication)
- Operations management (e.g., behavioral and strategic perspectives, supply chain relationships, service operations, process improvement, queuing behavior, coordination, information flows, global operations trends, digital operations, supply chain risk)
- Sustainability, ethics & corporate social responsibility (e.g., ESG, climate change, responsible capitalism, policy, ethical leadership, pro-environmental behavior)
- Strategy and international business (e.g., competitive advantage, alliances, corporate strategy, capabilities, networks, strategy emergence)
- Organizational behavior (e.g., motivation, emotions, leadership, teams, identity, interpersonal dynamics)
- Human resource management (e.g., recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, compensation, training, talent management, employee lifecycle, skill development, learning, training effectiveness, gig economy, remote work, DEI)
- Entrepreneurship (e.g., startup behavior, venture teams, funding, entrepreneurial strategy, opportunity creation, effectuation, entrepreneurial ecosystems, global innovation, novel venture phenomena, crowdfunding, digital entrepreneurship)
Types of Submissions
- Full papers (i.e., studies at an advanced stage of conceptualization, data collection, and/or analysis)
- Advanced conceptual manuscripts
- Applied research or industry-partnered studies
Workshop Format
- Closed-door, small-group roundtable mentoring, with each paper discussed by both mentors and peers.
- Closed-door developmental feedback sessions, with senior scholars offering detailed comments on various aspects of the work, including theory, methodology, and contribution.
- Panel discussions, where journal editors and senior scholars form the AOM will share expectations and journal positioning strategies.
Submission Guidelines
Submit a manuscript of up to 8,000 words inclusive of everything, which includes research questions, theoretical background, methods/data (if applicable), and expected contributions. Indicate the target journal(s) for your work.

Review Process
Submissions will be evaluated by AOM-affiliated scholars; selection will be based on novelty, quality, and the potential for theoretical or practical contribution. Authors of accepted submissions will be paired with senior mentors ahead of the workshop.
